The Moon and Her Moths

Moths flew through the forest,

Draped in the colours of shadows,

And whispered in my ear

Their dreams of the moon,

She who held them in lunar spell,

Who silvered rivers and trees

Where she fell,

Whose beauty made the stars shy,

And I, too, was mesmerized,

Chased her with the moths

To catch a glimpse and

Bear witness to her light,

And hold it in my hands. 
But she was fleeter of foot than I,

Hid herself away in night. 
I blinked,

And was left in dew and dawn.

About the artist:

Ella is a Toronto-based artist and illustrator who works mainly with pen and ink. Her art is inspired by the magic all around her, in the details of nature and people. The great diversity of our planet, the graceful and bizarre creatures and plants that inhabit it, the endless depths of the ocean waves, the enchantment of the forests, and the mysteries of the stars in the sky all serve to create new worlds that she hopes will awaken the imagination of the viewer and remind them that there is beauty all around them.
